August Paul Bruns
21 February 1948 – 12 July 2016
This memorial fund is established in the name of August Paul Bruns, who loved racing in the SCCA, and who had the utmost respect for all the SCCA workers.
August/Paul, a former Navy aircraft mechanic, was an avid race fan, regularly watching Formula One and SCCA Racing. He enjoyed attending car shows and seeing custom cars.
He loved racing his Vector GB2 Formula Vee in the Southeast Region of the SCCA from 1992-1995 even more.
He was the first to volunteer help to a fellow driver, deeply appreciated the SCCA volunteer workers, and was at his happiest at a race track.
My favorite memory is when I had crashed my Caldwell D-13 at Charlotte on Saturday and he wouldn’t let me quit, even though I wanted to, so we drove back to Atlanta and together we worked all night ending up with a crude makeshift nose. My wife, Mad, had to drive the van & trailer as I was too tired to drive back to Charlotte very early Sunday morning. I had to start last & won the race! I never would have won without his help.
