Our Board thought it might be a good idea to tell you a little bit about ourselves and how we got involved with SCCA, and as RE, I volunteered to go first. 🙂 I got involved with SCCA back around 2001, when I was living in Houston. My co-worker invited me to a Solo II event at Gulf Greyhound Park with the Houston Region. He had a fairly nice Corvette, and he first took me for a ride-along, and then put me in the driver’s seat to try it out. It was a blast! So I went and bought an low-mileage, one-owner (literally a little old lady) 1990 Miata, started driving more often, and began the never-ending journey of upgrading the car.

After that, I moved to Philadelphia and autocrossed with Philly SCCA at Ripken Stadium (and a couple other places I can’t remember anymore) until my tricked out, CSP, 1.8 engine swapped Miata was stolen (!!!). Discouraged, I took a year off…. Then I went to New York City and picked up a 94 Miata and built a replacement. I moved to DC and drove with the WDC Region at what used to be called FedEx Field. When I moved to Atlanta in 2007, I started driving with Middle GA at Henderson Stadium, Alabama Region at Pelham, and Atlanta Region at Turner and AMS. At some point, I started volunteering to do more with the Atlanta Region and joined Team Solo. I helped with the Autocross program for a while, then got more involved with the club and learning about the other areas of motorsport.
The unofficial SCCA slogan is “come for the cars, stay for the people,” and it’s true – I got into this because I liked driving and I loved playing with cars. But now, I love seeing and working with my friends to make the club better. I’ve met lots of great people along the way, and that’s what has kept me coming back. Thanks to everyone I have met for making the SCCA a great place to have #funwithcars!
