Atlanta Region SCCA Heats Up the Asphalt with Points 2 & 3 Battles!

The Atlanta Region SCCA recently delivered two thrilling weekends of autocross action with their Points 2 and Points 3 events! Competitors pushed their cars and skills to the limit, resulting in some incredibly close finishes and standout performances. Let’s dive into the recap of both events.

Atlanta Region SCCA Points 2: April 27, 2025

The Points 2 event saw a strong turnout of 136 drivers, all eager to lay down their best times. The competition was fierce across many classes, with mere hundredths of a second often separating the top contenders.

Close Battles at Points 2

  • B Street (BS): The McGinnis duo provided an nail-biting finish! Jeremy McGinnis in his 2023 Toyota GR Corolla took the top spot with a blistering 51.547, but his co-driver, Ryan McGinnis, was right on his heels, finishing just 0.014 seconds behind with a 51.561. This was truly a battle of precision! Adam Blalock also showed impressive consistency, finishing only 0.058 seconds behind Kenneth J St Pierre for third place.
  • D Street (DS): A deep field of 12 entries made for exciting competition. Thomas Gorman claimed victory with a 49.894, but Carter Kerr was hot on his trail, just 0.438 seconds back. Further down the pack, the fight for 4th and 5th was incredibly tight, with John Godwin edging out Brian Uyl by a mere 0.052 seconds. Jose Alberto Carrillo and Chance Sapp were also in a near dead heat, separated by just 0.007 seconds for 8th and 9th.
  • E Street (ES): Philip Rodning secured first place, but the fight for second was incredibly close. Larry Ferrell clinched 2nd with a 53.389, just 0.029 seconds ahead of Allen Joiner!
  • B Street Touring (BST): Daniel Toth dominated the class with a 49.832, but the next three spots were all within a quarter of a second of each other! Marcus Wheeler grabbed second, followed closely by David Zemon, who was just 0.108 seconds ahead of Clay Horste.
  • C Street Touring (CST): Manny Matrille took the win, but Josh Lindor was a strong contender, finishing only 1.542 seconds behind in a highly competitive class.
  • D Street Touring (DST): While the top two were separated by a larger margin, the battle for 3rd, 4th, and 5th was very close. Brandon Barron, Don Barron, and Malachi Gayle were all within striking distance of each other.
  • X Prepared (XP): Marko Horn secured the win by just 0.372 seconds over Rob Heiser in another thrilling head-to-head.
  • Street Modified FWD (SMF): Michael Hernandez took the top spot, but the fight for the podium was intense. Mihai Burghelea was just 0.132 seconds behind Jacob Hernandez for third place!
  • Classic American Muscle C (CAMC): Brent Dixon led the pack, but the battle for second and third was incredibly close. Kyle Mavis secured second, only 0.393 seconds ahead of Rick Donalson! Stephen Westbrooks and Jordan Ruiz also had a tight finish for 4th and 5th.
  • Classic American Muscle S (CAMS): This family affair saw Jeremy Wein take first, but Adam Wein was right there, just 0.166 seconds behind.
  • Pro Class: This combined class saw some of the fastest times of the day. Christian Kolmers topped the Pro class, but Chris Raglin was a mere 0.469 seconds behind. The fight for the rest of the top five was exceptionally tight, with less than two tenths of a second separating 3rd through 5th. Jesse Naughton edged out Nick Lindsay by 0.034 seconds, and Lindsay was then just 0.048 seconds ahead of Rick Cone! Further down the Pro class, Tevin Richardson barely beat out Jay Parcon by 0.003 seconds for 15th!
  • Rookie Class: The rookies brought their A-game! Dominik Klenik put in an impressive performance to win, but Ashley Tate was less than a second behind. Mark Nacon and Cameron McCune were separated by a mere 0.046 seconds for 5th and 6th, while Kibeom (Gear) KIM was just 0.041 seconds behind Sophia Richardson for 9th.
  • Novice Class: The Novice class showcased emerging talent. Hamilton Thomas took first, but Garrett Michels was a close second, just 0.327 seconds back. The battle for 4th and 5th was decided by a razor-thin margin of 0.054 seconds, with Andrew Knops pulling ahead of Stuart Michels. Wesley Whisenhunt and Shane Bose were separated by just 0.008 seconds for 11th and 12th!

Atlanta Region SCCA Points 3: June 8, 2025

The action continued at Points 3, with 112 registered drivers hitting the course. Again, the competition proved to be incredibly close in many categories.

Close Battles at Points 3

  • Super Street (SS): Thomas Gorman took the win, but Elizabeth Richardson was close behind, pushing hard to narrow the gap.
  • B Street (BS): David Knudsen secured the top spot, but Ryan McGinnis was hot on his heels, finishing just 0.436 seconds behind.
  • C Street (CS): Wayne Walter delivered a winning performance, but Ben Credle was a strong contender, finishing less than a second behind.
  • D Street (DS): This class was tightly contested! Carter Kerr secured first, but Alan Fischer was a close second, only 0.481 seconds behind. The fight for 3rd and 4th was also incredibly close, with Keith Davis edging out John Godwin by just 0.057 seconds. Marko Horn and Mike Morey were also within a quarter of a second of each other for 5th and 6th. Cullin Williams and Kahn Howard were separated by a mere 0.079 seconds for 9th and 10th.
  • E Street (ES): Larry Ferrell won the class, but the competition for second and third was thrilling. Allen Joiner took second by a minuscule 0.072 seconds over Philip Rodning!
  • G Street (GS): Jonathan Dove emerged victorious, but Thomas Simon was less than a second behind, making for a competitive finish.
  • H Street (HS): Leif Horn took the win, but Freya Horn was a close second, just 1.267 seconds behind. Further back, Colby Baldwin beat Kyle Baldwin by 0.592 seconds.
  • B Street Touring (BST): While Jeffrey Ling had a commanding lead, the fight for the remaining podium spots was tight. Daniel Toth took second, and then Elena Prestwood secured third, with Jason Westbrook less than a tenth of a second behind her! Chris Waddle was also less than a tenth behind Westbrook, showing how close the competition was. Marcus Wheeler and Casandra Light were also separated by a narrow margin of 0.199 seconds for 7th and 8th.
  • C Street Touring (CST): Josh Lindor grabbed the victory, but Manny Matrille was a formidable opponent, finishing just 0.619 seconds behind.
  • G Street Touring (GST): Thomas Crump took home the win, with Shawn Macon and Jordan Spencer battling closely for second and third, separated by just 0.461 seconds and 0.342 seconds respectively from the winner.
  • Street Modified FWD (SMF): Michael Hernandez claimed victory, but the battle for second and third was very close. Mihai Burghelea finished second, and Jacob Hernandez was less than two tenths of a second behind him!
  • Classic American Muscle C (CAMC): Kyle Mavis secured a narrow victory over Brent Dixon by just 0.449 seconds. The fight for third and fourth was also very tight, with Rick Donalson just 0.291 seconds ahead of Stephen Westbrooks.
  • Pro Class: The Pro class continued to showcase incredible speed. Bryan Carbon returning in his recently repaired C7 Corvette led the pack, with Miles Prestwood and Christian Kolmers close behind, separated by a mere 0.011 seconds! Tevin Richardson and Jordan Towns were also in a near dead heat, separated by just 0.036 seconds. Tommy Pulliam, Nicholas Ognio and David Nolan were also very tightly packed.
  • Rookie Class: Dominik Klenik continued his strong performance from Points 2, taking the win in Rookie. Thomas Ramey secured second, followed by Hamilton Thomas, who was just 0.365 seconds behind. Ashley Tate, Jonathan Lee and Darren Jones were also tightly packed in the mid-field.
  • Novice Class: William Evan Shaffer was the top Novice driver, but Max Schubert was very close, just 0.415 seconds behind. Chase Greenstein and Andrew Knops had an exceptionally tight battle for 5th and 6th, separated by only 0.076 seconds. Ivan Duque and Alexander Hammonds were also very close.

Both Atlanta Region SCCA Points events were a testament to the skill and dedication of the autocross community. The close finishes across numerous classes provided exciting action for participants and spectators alike. We look forward to seeing these competitors continue to push the limits at future events!
