Double the Action: A Combined Recap of Points 4 & 5!

The Atlanta Region SCCA has had a whirlwind of a season, with back-to-back weekends of thrilling autocross! We’re excited to bring you a combined recap of our unique night event, Points 4, and our return to a standard format with Points 5. Both events delivered intense competition and showcased the incredible talent in our region.

Points 4: A Dazzling Night of Autocross

Our “Under the Lights” event on July 26th was the first of its kind since 2009, and it was a spectacular success! The cooler night air and unique atmosphere at EchoPark Speedway led to some blistering times and nail-biting finishes across every class.

  • The battle for first in D Street (DS) was an absolute thriller, with Alan Fischer (VW Golf R) taking the win over Carter Kerr (Toyota GR86) by a minuscule 0.005 seconds!
  • The Pro Class podium was separated by tenths of a second, with Nick Lindsay (Corvette Z06) claiming victory over Christian Kolmers (Mazda Miata) and Ryan Finch (Corvette Z06). Just behind them, Jesse Naughton (Civic Type R) edged out Tommy Pulliam (Camaro 1LE) by a mere 0.011 seconds!
  • In E Street (ES), Philip Rodning and Emil Schulz were separated by just 0.210 seconds for 3rd and 4th place.
  • The Rookie Class showed great potential under the lights, with Dominik Klenik (Mazda Miata) taking the top spot. The fight for 9th and 10th was decided by a razor-thin 0.019 seconds between Bryce Hill and Kyle Greaves.

Points 5: Keeping the Competition Red Hot

The momentum continued into our Points 5 event on August 3rd. Drivers were back in the daytime, but the competition was no less fierce, with more photo finishes and outstanding drives.

  • The C Street (CS) class gave us the closest finish of the day. Ben Credle (Honda S2000) took the win by a breathtaking 0.022 seconds over Wayne Walter (Honda S2000). The battle for 4th was just as tight, with Jennifer Brown beating Tim Maley by a mere 0.014 seconds!
  • The Pro Class was once again a showcase of precision driving. Ashley Weaver (VW GTI) claimed a hard-fought win, with Alan Fischer (VW Golf R) just 0.119 seconds behind her.
  • In Xtreme Street B (XB), James Hunt (Mazda Miata) secured first place, but was pushed all the way by Zane Thompson (Mazda Miata), finishing just 0.106 seconds behind him.
  • Our Rookie Class continued its tradition of close battles, as Hamilton Thomas (Porsche Cayman) edged out Thomas Ramey (VW Golf TSI) by a scant 0.116 seconds for the final podium spot.
  • The Novice Class also delivered a nail-biter, with Ian Z (Corvette Z06) and William Ganues (Hyundai Elantra N) separated by just 0.371 seconds for the final podium spot.

Thank you to all the drivers and dedicated volunteers who made both of these events a massive success. The passion and sportsmanship on display are what make our region’s events so special.
