Points 6 Recap: The Season Heats Up!
The Atlanta Region SCCA was back at EchoPark Speedway (formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway) for our Points 6 Autocross on Sunday, August 24th. The competition was fierce, with drivers pushing the limits to secure vital points as the season winds down. The day was filled with fantastic driving and some incredibly close finishes across a wide range of classes.
Close Battles That Kept Us on the Edge
Rookie Class: Our rookies showed great improvement. Ashley Tate (Toyota GR86) took the win, and the battle for fourth was incredibly close, with Kevin Todd pulling ahead of Dylan Jones by a mere 0.092 seconds. Get ready—the season is just getting started!
C Street (CS): It was a showdown between two of the season’s top contenders. Wayne Walter (Honda S2000) took the win by a solid margin, but the battle for second saw Ben Credle (Honda S2000) finish just 1.329 seconds behind. The fight for the final podium spot was also tight, with Tim Maley beating out Jennifer Brown by a slim 0.923 seconds.
D Street (DS): This class was a true nail-biter! Alan Fischer (Volkswagen Golf R) claimed the victory, but Thomas Gorman was a mere 0.046 seconds behind him for second place, with Laraine Wilkinson finishing 3rd. The rest of the top five was also incredibly close, with Dean Richardson ahead of Mike Morey by just 0.122 seconds, and Mike Morey edging out Keith Davis by 0.400 seconds.
E Street (ES): Philip Rodning took the win, but Allen Joiner was right on his tail, finishing just 0.159 seconds behind for a very close second place.
G Street (GS): The fight for the podium was intense. Jonathan Dove secured the win, but a thrilling battle for second was decided by a razor-thin 0.075 seconds, with David Cox just ahead of Thomas Simon.
Super Street Touring (SST): James Loftin claimed the top spot, but Bill Zorn was a close second, finishing just 0.856 seconds behind.
B Street Touring (BST): Daniel Toth (Mitsubishi Evolution) delivered a commanding performance for the win, but the fight for second and third was fantastic. Clay Horste took second, just 0.157 seconds ahead of Marcus Wheeler!
G Street Touring (GST): This class had a very tight finish for the win. Jordan Spencer (Hyundai Veloster N) took the top spot, but Thomas Crump (Volkswagen Golf Alltrack) was a close second, finishing only 0.375 seconds behind.
E Prepared (EP): Another class that was decided by the blink of an eye. Rob Heiser claimed first place, but Marko Horn was just 0.020 seconds behind him!
Classic American Muscle C (CAMC): The muscle cars put on a show! Brent Dixon (Ford Mustang GT) took a decisive victory, but Kyle Mavis (Ford Shelby GT350) was a close second, just 0.219 seconds behind.
Pro Class: The Pro class was as exciting as ever. Christian Kolmers topped the charts, but Rick Cone was a mere 0.152 seconds behind. Just behind them, Jim Fossum was only 0.460 seconds behind Cone, and then Juan Colmenero was right there, just 0.455 seconds behind Fossum. The fight for 5th was also decided by a slim 0.212 seconds between Tommy Pulliam and Dylan Brown.
