Points 7 Recap: The Season-End Sprints!
The Atlanta Region SCCA closed out another exciting event with our Points 7 Autocross on Sunday, September 21st. With the season nearing its finish, drivers were pushing for every point, resulting in some incredibly tight battles across the board!
Close Battles That Kept Us on the Edge
B Street (BS): This was a photo finish for the top spot! David Knudsen (Corvette) claimed the victory, but Ryan McGinnis was mere 0.035 seconds behind him for second place.
C Street (CS): Ben Credle (Honda S2000) took the win, but the competition was tight for the remaining trophy spots. Tim Maley (Mazda MX-5) edged out Jennifer Brown (Mazda MX-5) by a slim 0.161 seconds for third place.
D Street (DS): Carter Kerr (Toyota GR86) secured the win, but the podium fight was fierce. Mike Morey (Subaru WRX) finished second, followed closely by Ryan Finch (Hyundai Elantra N), who was only 0.283 seconds behind Morey.
E Street (ES): Allen Joiner (Mazda Miata) secured the win, but Philip Rodning (Mazda Miata) was just 1.900 seconds behind him for second place. The final trophy spot was a tight battle as Larry Ferrell beat Jacob McCauley by 0.760 seconds for third.
G Street (GS): Jonathan Dove (VW GTI) claimed the win, but a thrilling battle for second was decided by a razor-thin 0.459 seconds over Thomas Simon (VW GTI).
Super Street Touring (SST): Bill Zorn (Porsche Spyder) took the victory, holding off Alan Fischer (Porsche Spyder) by a close 0.671 seconds.
B Street Touring (BST): Jeffrey Ling (Subaru STI) won, but the top three were all within half a second of each other. Daniel Toth (Mitsubishi Evolution) was just 0.220 seconds behind Ling, and Chris Waddle (Hyundai Genesis Coupe) was only 0.248 seconds behind Toth!
C Street Touring (CST): Josh Lindor (Mazda Miata) took the win, but Manny Matrille (Mazda Miata) pushed hard, finishing just 1.419 seconds behind.
E Prepared (EP): Another class decided by the blink of an eye. Marko Horn (Honda CRX) claimed first place, but Rob Heiser (Honda CRX) was just 0.873 seconds behind him!
Pro Class: Christian Kolmers (Mazda Miata) topped the charts, but the mid-pack provided serious action. David Nolan (Porsche Cayman GTS) barely beat out Bryan Carbon (Corvette Z06) by just 0.051 seconds for fourth place. Rick Cone (Mazda Miata) finished only 0.010 seconds ahead of Juan Colmenero (Chevrolet Z06) for seventh.
Rookie Class: The Rookies were sharp! Ashley Tate (Toyota GR86) took the win, while Steven Yi (Mazda Miata) snatched seventh place, beating Kate Tate (Toyota GR86) by a narrow 0.022 seconds!
